Training Prerequisites

Step 1: Review the Texas Health & Human Services process. Return the Attestation of Completion page to programs@apaarecovery.org.

Step 2: Register for the three day Core Training (required before registering for the RSPS or MHPS class.

Step 3: Apply to take the three day Core or 40-hour RSPS or MHPS Training.

RSPS & MHPS Training

Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) and Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) training is 40-hour training spread over 5 days. Attendees must complete the entire training. Participants must have access to a computer, stable internet access, speakers or headset to attend this online training.

Core training must be completed *before* you apply to the 5-day training. This class is a 19.5-hour (3-day) preview of the role of a Peer Recovery Coach and is designed to be a prerequisite for the RSPS/ MHPS Training

Self-assessment and orientation: Students are required to read and sign an attestation that they have completed an HHSC self-assessment and orientation. Sign and print or save the Attestation of Completion and return it to programs@apaarecovery.org.

The RSPS training is specialized for individuals in recovery from substance use and/or dual diagnosis seeking to use their recovery pathway to support other individuals in recovery.

The MHPS credential standardizes the qualifications of those working in Recovery Support within the field, having lived experience with mental health, and/or co-occurring disorders.

Participants will gain knowledge of how their shared experience of recovery will empower others to become engaged in the recovery process.
