A State of Perpetual Trauma
Emergency rooms, emergency medical services, addiction treatment, detox, shelters, and jails can be a never-ending maze where people with mental health and substance use challenges move from one dead end to another in a cycle of perpetual trauma. Sadly, the cycle not only damages the people involved but also causes tremendous collateral damage for families and communities. This repeated failure comes with a high price tag that puts strain on public resources.
Strengthening our Approach
As we look for solutions to address trauma and recovery, APAA sees three key drivers that inform our approach:
A focus on long-term recovery
The promise that intersectionality holds as a lens for understanding how social determinants of health impact recovery
Harnessing the power of community
